Our Cool Library
At Bayview, it's fun to go to the library and hang out. Kids may be reading books, browsing the stacks, researching something on the computers, creating Keva-block feats of architecture, or playing friendly rounds of Scrabble. Ms. Whitelaw, our teacher-librarian, is always ready with a smile and a new book recommendation. With some help from the PAC through fundraising, she works hard to make the library the coolest learning hub of the school.
You might notice some new things in the library this year. To help the primary students find their favourite non-fiction subjects -- dinosaurs? pets? sports? -- Ms. Whitelaw has added visual representations of the Dewey decimal system. Meanwhile, students have been working on a timeline along the library walls. And there are two new collections underway: classic read alouds for families; and new titles to reflect Bayview's cultural diversity.
Volunteers are always welcome in the library!

What's growing in the centre of the room?
Some of the fun features of the library are legacies of former teacher-librarian Super Y (aka Carmen Yamashita), who worked hard to transform an ordinary room into a place of exploration and discovery. Check out the building of the Bayview Library Reading Tree video on YouTube here.
