One of the PAC’s main roles is to provide a voice for parents at every level of the education system.

Monthly PAC meetings provide an opportunity for dialogue between the parent community and the school administration. These meetings are attended by the principal, teacher representatives and other community membership.

On a broader scale, each school’s PAC is a member of the Vancouver School District PAC group (DPAC) and the BC Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils (BCCPAC). Both of these groups offer a larger perspective and an even stronger advocacy base for local and provincial issues.

Historically, Bayview’s PAC has also taken on an advocacy role with the Vancouver School Board and the BC Ministry of Education. In the past several years, parents and students have written directly to government officials to give feedback on various initiatives.

The PAC Seismic Committee has been strongly focused on ensuring that parents voices are heard at every step of the upgrade process – most importantly that we need a safe school as soon as possible for our students and staff.  The Seismic Committee is committed to advocating for a school which is built to high quality standards, offers sufficient space for anticipated future growth and incorporates our traditions as a community school (hosting prechools, out-of-school care and several community organizations).

If you have a concern or issue that you would like to see tackled, bring it to the attention of the PAC Executive at a monthly meeting (or by e-mail). Parents always have the students’ best interests at heart, and there is strength in numbers!
